DAN SEAGRAVE

Dan Seagrave, Death Metal, Hèroes Anónimos,

Cuando hablamos de Death Metal pensamos en riffs poderosos, guturales bestiales, blastbeats descomunales y un sonido sucio y desgarrador. Pero también pensamos instantáneamente en portadas oscuras, explícitas, mórbidas y sumamente llamativas. Si Scott Burns refinó el sonido en los míticos Morrisound Studios, Dan Seagrave le daría el rostro al Death Metal. Dan con su estilo único llevaría al Death Metal hacia otro nivel visual. De hecho el género fue reconocido por las portadas diferentes entre los demás géneros. Veías una portada de Seagrave y de inmediato sabías que era Death Metal además de transmitirte el concepto del disco y un estilo único.

Nacido en el Reino Unido un día 17 de julio de 1970, era apenas un joven cuando comenzó a ilustrar portadas para las bandas, sobre todo americanas aunque nunca faltaron las bandas suecas, acaparando toda la atención con su estilo y visión propia. Algo llamativo es que terminaría entrando a esta escena y convirtiéndose en un ícono del Death Metal pero no era fan de este tipo de música. Él de manera profesional elaboraba su trabajo y era cada vez más gustado por las bandas y sobre todo por los fans que enloquecíamos al ver las portadas. Días en donde muchas veces comprábamos cassettes, CD o vinilos porque nos llamaba la atención la portada incluso sin haberlo escuchado, algo que la juventud hoy no entendería porque pueden escuchar el trabajo en Youtube o descargarlo legal o ilegalmente.

Todos tenemos una portada preferida de entre toda su obra pero estoy seguro que mencionaríamos al menos 10 entre las que se nos hace difícil escoger. Su trabajo ha influenciado tanto a otros ilustradores jóvenes como a los músicos mismos que ven en su trabajo fuente de ideas para musicalizar su obra. Dan actualmente reside en Toronto, Canadá y su obra es más extensa que simplemente la ilustración pues también ha dirigido algunos cortos tan bizarros con su trabajo en general y que pueden ser vistos en su SITIO OFICIAL. También vale la pena echarle un vistazo a ellos para comprender su visión retorcida de este mundo enfermo en el que vivimos. In Time Before The Light se siente muy honrado de rendir un humilde tributo a este genio y poder agradecerle por tan magna obra.
